Red Storm and Catamounts will wrap series tomorrow afternoon

The St. John's baseball team dropped the second game of its series with Western Carolina on Saturday night, falling to the Catamounts, 21-3, at Hennon Stadium.

Justin Folz went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Colin Wetterau doubled and drove in a run while Carson Bartels added a run-scoring base knock.

Jake Lazzaro, Brandon Miller and Vincent Bianchi also tallied base knocks in the loss.

After the Johnnies went down 1-2-3 in the first, Western Carolina hung up seven runs in the home half of the frame. The Catamounts' leadoff hitter, Pascanel Ferreras, flew out to center to start the inning. Eight batters later, Ferreras, went down on strikes for the inning's second out.

The Catamounts added single runs in the second and third innings before St. John's got on the board in the top of the fourth. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases for Bartels, who singled to short and cut the Red Storm deficit to eight, 9-1, after three and a half.

Western Carolina responded by scoring three times in the bottom of the fourth, pushing its cushion to 11, 12-1, heading into the fifth.

The Catamounts added another run in the fifth before a pair of RBI doubles scored runs for the Johnnies in the sixth and seventh innings. Wetterau's two-bagger brought home Carlos Hidalgo in the sixth before Folz plated Lazzaro in the seventh.

Western Carolina scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh before adding a final tally in the eighth.

The Red Storm and the Catamounts will close out their series tomorrow afternoon at Hennon Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
