Freshman Angelica Kusnowo is tied for second after two rounds
Following the first two rounds of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, the St. John's women's golf team sits in third place, while freshman Angelica Kusnowo leads the way for the Red Storm and is tied for second overall in the standings.
"We played very steady all day and are sitting in a nice position, only two strokes back," said Head Coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo. "This course requires a lot of placement shots off the tee. The team did a nice job sticking to that game plan, which helped produce consistent scores throughout the day. "
As a team, the Johnnies turned in a two-round score of 601 (+25) to sit two strokes back of first place. Rutgers and UNCG are leading all teams, each turning in a 599 (+23) on the day.
"It's important we continue to focus on our game plan tomorrow and hopefully go out and shoot some low numbers," Bishop-Santillo added.
Kusnowo, who paced the way for the Red Storm in its last time out, drained four birdies and 26 pars during her two rounds to finish at two over for the day (73-73). The Chino Hills, Calif., native is six strokes back of UNCG's Tara Bettle who leads the field, turning in a 140 (-4) over 36 holes.
Junior Jessie Kweon is four strokes back of Kusnowo, turning in scores of 74-76 to sit in a tie for 10th place. Graduate student Linda Wang also turned in a top-15 performance, signing off on a pair of 76s. Kweon and Wang each fired off two birdies on the day.
Sophomore Cloe Clocchiatti (77-76) and senior Andrea Sanchez (82-79) rounded out the team scorecard, checking in at 17th and 36th.
Sophomores Jill Beglin and Laia Barro, who were competing as individuals, recorded two-round scores of 165 and 172, respectively.
St. John's closes out play at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate tomorrow morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
