QUEENS, N.Y. (March 5, 2021) – The St. John's lacrosse team will return to DaSilva Memorial Field to compete against No. 11/10 Denver on Saturday at noon.
The game will be produced live by SJU-TV and can be viewed on ESPN3, available on the ESPN.com/watch and ESPN app. Ralph Bednarczyk will have the call from Queens.
Graduate student Mike Madsen extended his goal-scoring streak last week to 13 games with his single goal in the loss to Georgetown. The Locust Valley, N.Y., has collected six tallies in the three games this season, including an overtime-winner against Hofstra. Madsen was awarded twice for his heroic efforts in the extra period, capturing a spot on the USILA Division I Team of the Week and the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
The Red Storm rank second in the conference with 10.6 caused turnovers per game, sitting behind Georgetown's 12.0 per contest.
Junior netminder Brody Agres has stopped 32 shots this season and holds the second-best mark in the BIG EAST for saves per game with 10.6.
Denver is coming off a 23-10 victory over Providence last Saturday and sits in second place with a 4-2 record in the BIG EAST. The Pioneers' only two losses came against No. 1/1 Duke on Feb. 5, and No. 4/4 North Carolina on Feb. 7.
Jackson Morrill and Alex Simmons led the way for the Pioneers last week with seven points apiece. Morrill's hat trick and four helpers were good enough for him to earn BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week.
Morrill paces the Pioneers' offense, leading the way with 14 goals, 10 assists and 24 points. Denver's leading attacker also ranks atop the conference leaderboard in all three categories.
Saturday's game will mark the seventh meeting between the two programs. The Pioneers took the last meeting against the Johnnies, 15-12, at DaSilva Memorial Field, on April 13, 2019. The Madsen brothers combined for five goals and two assists, while Agres tallied 13 saves in that contest.
