St. John’s Men’s Tennis Looks Towards Matches with Quinnipiac, Fairfield

Red Storm seeks to build off its 3-0 start to 2021
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team will look to build off its 3-0 start to the season when it welcomes Quinnipiac and Fairfield to Queens on Wednesday and Friday.
Tomorrow's match with the Bobcats is slated for 12 p.m. at USTA National Tennis Center while Friday's showdown with the Stags will get also get underway at noon with the location to be determined based on the weather.
The Red Storm is off to a hot start in 2021, as it has won its first three matches of the season. On Monday at home against Wagner, the Johnnies prevailed in the doubleheader, taking 11 out of 11 possible team points over the two matches. St. John's also won its first match back on Feb. 24 against Sacred Heart, 7-0.
Coach Dillon Pottish's squad has seen eight players prevail over its first three matches of the season without a single set having been dropped. In the team's most recent match with Wagner, Evan Felcher and Giuseppe de Camelis each stood out for the Red Storm, picking up two singles match victories.
Additionally, Djuro Opacic and Louis-nils Michel picked up one-sided singles victories in the first match of the day, while it was Dylan Loru and Matthew Mosejczuk earning wins in the second match. For the freshman Mosejczuk, the win marked the first victory in his college career in his first match, as he took both sets by 6-0 margins.
Wednesday's match with Quinnipiac will mark the Bobcats second of the season, as they took down Colgate in a tightly contested match this past Sunday, 4-3. Last season, Quinnipiac dropped its final eight matches of the year, finishing with a 1-8 record. The Johnnies and Bobcats were supposed to square-off on March 22 before the season was canceled due to Covid-19. The teams last met on Feb. 9, 2019, a 5-0 St. John's victory.
Friday will also be the second match of 2021 for the Stags, as they defeated Merrimack, 4-3, this past Saturday. Fairfield went 5-6 a year ago, and the last time that they have faced off with the Red Storm came back in 2014, a 6-1 St. John's victory.
Following this week's matches, the Johnnies will look towards three more nonconference battles in the month of March, as they will play a road contest with Rider on March 20, followed by a date with Army in West Point on the 25th, before closing out the month with Boston University on March 28.
