Seven different Johnnies scored on Saturday afternoon
The St. John's lacrosse team fell to No. 10/10 Georgetown, 20-7, on Saturday afternoon at DaSilva Memorial Field.
Seven different Johnnies found the back of the net against the Hoyas. Joe Madsen scored once and added two assists while Connor Kalmus chipped in a goal and a helper. Jonathan Huber scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season and Ryan Schaeffer recorded his eighth. J.T. Shoop, Mackenzie Iacocca and Christian Rega all etched their names on the stat sheet for the first time in 2021.
Mike Madsen, Thomas Martello and Ro Bryan added single assists for the Red Storm (1-5, 0-5 BIG EAST).
The Hoyas (7-1, 6-1 BIG EAST) scored the first 11 goals of the afternoon before St. John's logged three of the game's next four. Schaeffer opened the scoring for the Red Storm with 9:17 to go in the second quarter before Iacocca added his first of the season less than two minutes later. After a Georgetown goal, Kalmus threaded a nifty goal in traffic to make it a 12-3 game with five minutes to go in the first half.
With Georgetown leading 13-4 following a Joe Madsen goal three and a half minutes in the second half, the Hoyas closed the third quarter with five unanswered goals to take an 18-4 edge into the final stanza.
Shoop and Huber opened the fourth quarter with consecutive goals for the Red Storm before Georgetown responded with two of their own. Rega closed the scoring with his first collegiate tally in the final minute of play.
St. John's will return to action next weekend, traveling to Providence for a Saturday showdown with the Friars. The opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m.
