The Red Storm will face off against the Friars at 6 p.m.
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 9, 2021) – Following its loss to then-No. 10/10 Georgetown last weekend, the St. John's lacrosse team travels to Providence on Saturday for a 6 p.m. matchup.
The contest between the Red Storm (1-5, 0-5 BIG EAST) and the Friars (3-6, 2-5 BIG EAST) will be broadcast live on Friars All-Access.
St. John's will look to jump back in the win column after falling to the Hoyas, 20-7, on Saturday. Despite the Johnnies' setback against Georgetown, J.T. Shoop, Mackenzie Iacocca, and Christian Rega each notched one goal for the first time this season.
Redshirt junior Jonathan Huber scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season against the Hoyas while Ryan Schaeffer tallied his eighth. The team's point leader, Joe Madsen dished out two assists and scored one goal. Sophomore Connor Kalmus continued his streak of back-to-back multi-point games with one goal and a helper.
The Red Storm currently sits in second in the BIG EAST with 13.6 saved per game and 8.5 caused turnovers per contest across its six outings.
Providence will host its first home match since losing to then-No.8/7 Denver on Mar. 27. The Friars enter the weekend coming off a 13-6 loss to Villanova. Six different players found the back of the net in the contest as graduate student Ryan Nawrocki collected his fifth multi-point game of the season with one goal and one assist.
The Friars offense has been led by midfielder Dan Axelson. Axelson has collected 19 goals across Providence's nine matches. The graduate student averages two goals per game, ranking ninth in the conference. Nawrocki is also tied with Nicky Petkevich of Georgetown with 1.2 assists per game, good enough for seventh in the conference.
Since the two teams met in late February, Providence has won two of its five games. The Friars picked up wins over Marquette and non-conference opponent Fairfield.
Saturday will mark the 21st all-time meeting between the two programs with the Johnnies holding a 15-5 advantage.
