The Johnnies earned 16 first-place finishes
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 1, 2021) – The St. John's track & field team dominated at the seventh annual Tom Farrell Classic on Saturday, capturing 16 first-place finishes at DaSilva Memorial Field.
On Senior Day, Eleftheria Christogeorgou appeared in her first meet for the Red Storm this outdoor season, clearing a height of 1.70 meters to take first place in the high jump. Christogeorgou's mark ranks fifth all-time on the program's outdoor top-10 list and is currently tied for 61st on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying leaderboard. It is also the top height ever recorded by an athlete at the Tom Farrell Classic.
Christogeorgou registered a mark of 1.83 meters at the Greek Indoor National Championships in February, becoming the second Johnnie in school history to clear the six-foot bar behind St. John's alumna and 2016 Olympian Priscilla Frederick.
"It was great to see our team compete on campus and do so well," said Head Coach Jim Hurt. "Honoring our seniors with their parents present showed how fortunate it has been to work with such a great group. Having alumnus Tim Harrington here to dedicate our pole vault center to him and his family made the day even more special."
Olivia Pantale notched first place in the discus throw with a personal-best distance of 41.83 meters before picking up the top spot in the javelin with a throw of 40.09 meters. Junior Samantha Morillo took second place in the discus with a distance of 40.95 meters. She went on to place first in the shot put, recording a mark of 14.15 meters.
Leah Anderson swept the 200 and 400 meters with times of 24.31 and 55.73, respectively. Skyy Diop placed second in both events with marks of 24.90 and 56.41.
Anderson continued her success alongside Brooklyn Chestnut, Avon Samuels and Onassha Rogers in the 4x100-meter relay, clocking in a first-place time of 47.16.
Rogers seized first place in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 12.60 while Chestnut finished close behind with a time of 12.62.
Amanda Belgrave earned two first-place spots in the triple jump and long jump disciplines, recording distances of 11.30 meters and 5.46 meters.
Zamira Ysaac registered a top time in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:08.92 while Therese Gallagher took first place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:44.98.
Senior Stephanie Gerland captured two top finishes on the day. Gerland posted a personal-best time of 10:24.40 in the 3000 meters and a personal-best mark of 4:40.54 in the 1500 meters.
