St. John’s Completes Day One at BIG EAST Outdoor Championships

Day two of the conference championship will resume on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 14, 2021) – The St. John's track & field team opened action on Friday at the 2021 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships presented by Jeep at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
"We had an awesome opening day scoring in the vault, long jump & javelin," said Head Coach Jim Hurt. "We have a good number of people who qualified for tomorrow's finals and a plethora of personal bests on the day. We will need to duplicate today's efforts in the finals tomorrow."
Olivia Pantale captured a bronze medal in javelin throw, securing a third-place finish with a distance of 39.37 meters.
Senior sprinter Leah Anderson earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash prelims with a time of 53.66. Teammates Skyy Diop and Avon Samuels will join Anderson in tomorrow's 400-meter final after posting marks of 54.64 and 54.79, respectively. Tomorrow's race will kick off at 1:05 p.m.
Anderson, Diop and Samuels also qualified for tomorrow's 200-meter dash. Anderson took second place with a time of 23.93 in the prelims while Samuels finished in fourth with a mark of 24.13. Diop placed in sixth, crossing the finish line in 24.72.
Sophomore Claire Cushing seized a spot in tomorrow's 1500-meter run final, taking 12th place in the prelims with a time of 4:39.64.
Senior Onassha Rogers earned eighth place in the 100-meter dash, registering a mark of 12.10.
Amanda Belgrave recorded a personal-best distance of 5.55 meters in the long jump to secure seventh place.
The Red Storm resume action tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with the women's triple jump finals. The running events will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
