Red Storm Senior posts a time of 53.30 in the 400-meter dash.
JACKONSVILLE, Fla. – Senior Leah Anderson completed day one of the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Championships with a 22nd place mark in the 400-meter dash at Hodges Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
In the third heat of six, the Mount Vernon, N.Y., native posted a time of 53.30. Her placement in the race earned her a spot in the Quarterfinals taking place this Saturday.
This will be Anderson's first time advancing to the quarterfinals. She competed in the dash in 2019, grabbing 28th place. This mark was just four spots shy of earning a spot in the quarterfinals.
The Johnnie also competed in the 200-meter dash finishing fifth in the second heat of six, with a time of 23.72. Overall, she ranked 32nd among all competitors.
In 2019, the senior sprinter placed 42nd in the 200-meter dash, finishing eighth in her heat.
"We are very pleased to see Leah advance to the next round in the 400-meter," said Head Coach Jim Hurt. "She has a great chance to continue to advance to the finals in Eugene. She also ran a good 200-meter. However, with the short recovery time after the 400-meter, her time did not advance her. Saturday will be a big day for us with Eleftheria Christogeorgou in the high jump and Leah coming back for the 400-meter."
On Saturday, the Red Storm will see Christogeorgou compete in the high jump at 1:00 p.m. Anderson will compete next in the 400-meter dash Saturday at 7:20 p.m.
