Red Storm doubles squad defeats pairing from Wake Forest before falling in the second round
CARY, N.C. – St. John's women's tennis doubles squad of Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen advanced to the second round of the qualifying draw before falling on Monday night at the ITA All-American Championships.
In their first match, the duo outlasted Wake Forest's Nevena Carton and Maryam Ahmed in a dramatic fashion winning the tiebreak, 8-7 (9-7) at the Cary Tennis Park,
The win propelled the Red Storm pairing into the second round of the 48-team qualifying doubles bracket.
In its next match, Nielsen and de Lucas fell at the hands of All-Mountain West Doubles selections Yinglak Jittakoat and Matilde Mangrini of Fresno State, 8-2.
Next up for the Johnnies, Nielsen and de Lucas will be joined by teammates Emilie Haakansson and Mouna Bouzgarrou at the ITA Super Regionals in New Haven, Conn. on Oct. 21-22.
