Jillian Archer leads squad with 19-point and 11-rebound effort
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's basketball team orchestrated a wire-to-wire victory over Iona, 77-51, on Thursday night.
The Red Storm dominated the glass outrebounding the Gaels, 36-18, to propel itself to 9-0 at Carnesecca Arena.

Jillian Archer anchored the convincing effort, impressively logged a double-double in the first half. The graduate student forward finished with a season high 19 points and 11 points.
Jayla Everett continued to fill it up, finishing with 14 points including shooting 4-of-6 from three-point range. The redshirt senior distributed well accounting for a game-high five assists.
Kadaja Bailey finished in double-figures for the 12th straight game, dating back to last season. The guard registered 12 points, going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Danielle Patterson added nine points on a career-high three triples, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond-the-arc.
The Johnnies defense forced the Gaels into shooting just 2-for-16 (12.5) percent from three-point land.
St. John's (9-0, 2-0 BIG EAST) raced to a fast start offensively, connecting on six of its first eight goals. Everett, the team's leading scorer, found the bottom of the basket from deep, nailing a pair of triples in the opening 1:29. In the waning miutes of the opening frame, an 8-0 run built a double-digit lead, capped off with Patterson's first three-pointer of the night to make it 21-10.
Midway through the second quarter the Red Storm spurred on a 10-0 scoring run to blow the game open, 36-17. Archer posted eight points during that stretch and capped it off with a turnaround lay-in on a nice feed from Rayven Peeples. With 23 seconds left in the half, Archer corralled her 10th board, becoming the first Johnnie to post a double-double in the first half this season.
In the third quarter, the Red Storm continued to balloon its lead, shooting 10-of-11 from the free-throw line during the stanza. In the final minutes of the third, Patterson drilled a pair of three-pointers over 1:23 to bring the advantage to 60-37.
In the final 10 minutes, the Red Storm continued to pad its lead on its way to its ninth-straight win. With just over eight minutes remaining, Everett buried a three-pointer from the corner amidst an oncoming Gaels defender.
Archer cashed a pair of free throws to complete an impressive scoring night, far exceeding her previous season-high of 13 points. The free throws gave the Johnnies their largest of the game, 71-43, with 6:51 to go.
Tonight's victory marked the 15th in program history over Iona (4-5).
The longest homestand of the year continues on Sunday when St. John's welcomes Bethune-Cookman for a 2 p.m. start.
