St. John’s Hits the Road for Battle at No. 7/8 Connecticut

The Johnnies will face off against the Huskies on Friday night
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's women's basketball hits the road for a game against No. 7/8 Connecticut at the XL Center in Hartford on Friday night.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on SNY with Allen Bestwick and Meg Culmo on the call. Maria Marino will serve as the sideline reporter for the broadcast.
The Red Storm (11-16, 7-10 BIG EAST) comes into the game after taking down Providence, 68-62, in an overtime thriller during the Johnnies' home finale on Sunday. The Red Storm tallied 51 rebounds during the victory, marking the second time in three games that St. John's registered 50 boards.
On her Senior Day, Camree Clegg posted a career-high 23 points by shooting 6-of-7 from the floor, 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. She dished out a team-high seven assists during the victory and was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her efforts. Rayven Peeples crashed the boards, pulling down a career-high 17 rebounds (including 12 on the defensive glass). The junior set her previous career high of 14 boards against the Friars earlier this season. Leilani Correa posted a solid performance, tallying 20 points for the ninth time this season and eight boards.
This season, the Johnnies average 73.8 points, ranking third in the conference and 31st nationally. The Red Storm sits third in the conference and 17th nationally with 228 3-pointers made this year. As a team, St. John's averages 8.4 triples per game, putting the team third in the league and 24th in the country. Correa leads the Red Storm squad in scoring and ranks fourth in the conference with 17.8 points per game.
The seventh-ranked Huskies enter the game at 20-5 on the year and 14-1 in BIG EAST play. The team averages 73.5 points and ranks second nationally with a 48.3 shooting percentage. Playing in 22 of UConn's 25 games, Christyn Williams paces the team with 15.0 points per outing. Olivia Nelson-Ododa leads the Huskies on the boards, pulling down 7.8 rebounds per game.
UConn comes into Friday's matchup on short rest after defeating Marquette, 69-38, in a midweek battle on Wednesday. The win gave the Huskies their second-straight BIG EAST regular season title and marked the program's 29th straight 20-win season. Individually, Evina Westbrook came off the bench to score a team-high 17 points while Azzi Fudd added 13 points for UConn.
During the first meeting between the teams this year, the Huskies came out on top, 75-57. Kadaja Bailey led the Johnnies with 21 points, as the Long Beach, N.Y., native went 10-for-17 from the floor while also recording three assists and three steals. UConn was led in scoring by Caroline Ducharme, who shot 13-of-22 from the field and tallied 28 points. Nelson-Odoba logged a double-double with 18 rebounds and 10 assists.
The game will mark the 59th meeting between the teams with UConn leading the all-time series, 42-17.
