Johnnies look to extend win streak to four
QUEENS, N.Y.- On Wednesday afternoon, the St. John's men's tennis team will meet LIU at the USTA National Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
The Red Storm (10-2) is coming off its 10th win of the season, as it eased past Boston University on Saturday night, 6-1. Reigning BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week Ignacio Garcia and Axel Vila Antuna recorded a dominant 6-0 tally over the Terriers top pair. On the year, the duo has notched seven wins.
In singles play, Carl Gustavsson leads all Johnnies with nine wins this season. Vila Antuna has added eight while Garcia contributed seven victories. Vlad Vasilache has shown quality form lately, posting a three-match winning streak.
LIU will visit Queens on Wednesday with a 10-5 record on the season and are also riding a four-match winning streak. The Sharks are led by graduate student Ben Brandherm, who has earned the no. 1 slot for most of their matches and holds a 9-5 overall record.
Following the midweek contest, the Red Storm will travel to meet Princeton on Saturday.
