Red Storm wraps-up homestand with another win
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's men's tennis team registered its fourth consecutive win against local foe LIU, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Storm continued to display its depth as new insertions into the line-up tallied victories at the USTA National Tennis Center. On the year, the Johnnies hold a combined 54-16 singles record.
In doubles play, the two-time reigning BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week Axel Vila Antuna and Ignacio Garcia tallied their fifth consecutive doubles win in a 6-3 triumph over LIU's Danila Ischanka and Ben Brandherm.
In individual competition, Garcia slid into the no. 1 slot with ease, as he notched a 6-2, 6-2, decision over Brandherm.
In the no. 3 slot, Vlad Vasilache continued to roll with another straight-set decision over Sergio Romero, 6-0, 6-1. The mid-year arrival has quickly integrated himself into the lineup as he collected his fourth consecutive win.
Junior Giuseppe De Camelis added to the point total on the no. 4 court. The Trani, Italy, native swung past the Sharks Alessandro D'Anna, 6-2, 6-0.
In his first appearance in the singles rotation since Feb. 10, Ryota Kaneda dominated the Sharks Philip Hible, 6-1, 6-2, on the no. 6 court.
On Saturday, the Red Storm will face off against a nationally ranked opponent when it travels to no. 36 Princeton.
