Red Storm Readies for Three-Game Set with Quinnipiac

Johnnies and Bobcats to meet on the diamond for the first time in 16 years
QUEENS, N.Y.- After defeating Hofstra and Wagner in the midweek, the St. John's baseball team will look to extend its five-game win streak when it welcomes in Quinnipiac for a three-game weekend series. Friday's contest against the Bobcats is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch, and the final two games will start at 1 p.m.

On Tuesday, David Glancy hit three home runs in the 9-7 triumph over the Hofstra Pride, marking the second time in the last decade a Johnnie has hit round trippers. In the win over Wagner on Wednesday, Glancy extended his hitting streak to nine games in a 1-for-4 effort with an RBI and a run scored. The Neptune, N.J., native has now hit more home runs this season (6) than any Johnnie in the previous two seasons, is tied for the team lead in RBIs (20) and paces the squad in runs scored (19). Glancy's six home runs in the first 20 games are the most by a Johnnie since 2009 when Greg Hopkins also hit six homers in that same span.

As a team, the Red Storm has hit 16 home runs through its first 20 games of the season, the most in that span since 2010 when St. John's left the yard 19 times in its first 20 contests.

Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week Kevin Michaels continues to be a force at the plate for the Red Storm. The redshirt sophomore has tallied a base hit in six straight games and notched two or more knocks in his last five games. The Encinitas, Calif., native is also producing runs at an impressive rate, recording multiple RBIs in each of his last five outings. Michaels is batting a team-best .418 and leads the Red Storm with a .672 slugging percentage. The team's everyday shortstop is tied with Glancy with 10 extra-base hits (six doubles, one triple and three homers).

Like Michaels, Tate Ballestero has recorded multiple base-hits in his each of his last five starts. Ballestero has also scored at least one run in his last five outings. The Morristown, N.J., native sits at second behind Michaels in batting average at .408. Ballestero joins Glancy as the only other Johnnie to start all 21 games this season and leads the team in total hits (31), multi-hit games (10) and on-base percentage (.483).

Freshman Jackson Tucker holds the longest on-base streak for the Red Storm, reaching safely in 15 consecutive games. The Staten Island native is tied for the team lead in walks with 14.

Dylan Johnson will make his third start of the season in Friday's opener. Joe Joe Rodriguez will take the hill on Saturday while Brandon Backman will start his second game in six days in Sunday's finale.

Chuck Sanzio recorded saves in both midweek games, a one-inning effort on Tuesday and a one-out closer on Wednesday. The sophomore righthander now has four saves this season and has recorded a save in each of his last three appearances.

Quinnipiac enters the three-game set with a record of 4-12. The Bobcats have played all 16 games on the road and will not play their first home game until April.
