Johnnies remain perfect at home with their seventh win on the year in Queens
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's tennis team defeated Georgetown, 6-1, on Friday afternoon.
The Red Storm (9-5, 2-0) won seven of the eight completed matches at the USTA National Tennis Center. The victory of the Hoyas (4-11, 0-3) moved to Johnnies to a 7-0 record at home this season.
In partner play Mouna Bouzgarrou and Emilie Haakansson dominated their doubles match with a 6-0 win. Camila Ordonez and Lalita Devarakonda sailed past the Hoyas Madine Del Carmen and Agata Mikos, 6-1.
In singles, reigning BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week Bouzgarrou tallied her team-best ninth singles win against Brooke Willy. On the no. 3 court Jayden Nielson had a straight set win against Georgetown's McHaley Ho, 6-1, 6-2. Yesica de Lucas swept the Hoyas Agata Mikos, 6-1, 6-4, in the no. 4 position.
On the no. 5 court, Willa Bay Breunich took down the Hoyas Carmen Aizpurua in a straight set win, 6-1, 6-1. Rounding out the victories for the Johnnies was Ordonez as she moved past Morgan Coburn on the no. 6 court, 6-4, 6-4.
On Sunday, St. John's takes on Connecticut in another BIG EAST showdown. The contest has been pushed back to 3:45 p.m. and will now be played indoors in Manchester, Conn.
