St. John’s Claims Road Match at Connecticut, 6-1

Red Storm have won five straight five matches
MANCHESTER, Conn.- The St. John's women's tennis team took down Connecticut, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon in Manchester, Conn.
The Red Storm (10-5, 3-0) claimed seven of the eight completed matches against the Huskies at Magic Lincer Tennis Club. The Johnnies extend their winning streak to five matches, as they have dominated opponents by a combined score of 32-3 over that stretch.
In doubles play, Jayden Nielsen and Yesica de Lucas finished on top with a 6-1 score. Following with another partner victory from Emilie Haakansson and Mouna Bouzgarrou, who grabbed a 6-2 win.
In singles competition, Bouzgarrou won her team-best tenth singles win against UConn's Julieanne Bou, 7-6 (3), 7-5. Nielsen grabbed another win on the no. 3 court over Aleksandra Karamyshev, 6-2, 6-3.
De Lucas corralled another match, as she notched a 6-0, 6-3 decision over UCONN's Caroline Cook. Willa Bay Breunich dominated her match, 6-4, 6-2, in the no. 5 slot over the Huskies Isabel Petri Bare. The junior has won each of her individual matches in straight sets during St. John's five-match streak.
In the no. 6 position, Camila Ordonez took down Denise Lai in a match that went the distance, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5. The Miami native is off to an undefeated start in conference play.
St. John's competes again on Friday at 12 p.m. The Red Storm will meet BIG EAST foe Villanova.
