St. John’s Prepares for Pair of BIG EAST Matchups

Red Storm will host Georgetown on Friday, will travel to Connecticut on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's tennis team will gear up for a pair of BIG EAST matchups this weekend.
On Friday, the Red Storm will play host to Georgetown and travel to take on Connecticut in Storrs on Sunday.
The Johnnies (8-5, 1-0) will head into the weekend riding a three-match winning streak. In its BIG EAST opener on March 18, St. John's blanked Seton Hall, 7-0, at the USTA National Center.
The front half of the Red Storm weekend matches will take place at the USTA National Tennis Center at 12 p.m. on Friday. The Hoyas (4-10, 0-2) will visit Queens for the first time since 2017.
In the last meeting between the two programs, St. John's moved past Georgetown, 4-3, on March 15, 2019. After dropping the doubles point, the Red Storm prevailed as it rallied to win four of its six singles matches.
On Sunday, the Johnnies will hit the road for their first conference road matchup of the season. They will meet the Huskies at their on-campus courts at 12 p.m. Connecticut holds a 7-3 record on the year and is currently on a five-match winning streak.
In its last match against UConn on April 23, 2021, the Red Storm defeated the Huskies with a 4-0 sweep, advancing the Red Storm to the BIG EAST Semifinals. Current Johnnie Emilie Haakansson aided in securing the doubles point alongside partner Najah Dawson.
Historically, The Red Storm hold an all-time undefeated record against both BIG EAST programs.
Garnering recognition heading into this weekend's matchups is Mouna Bouzgarrou. The senior was named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
