St. John's went 1-2 on the weekend against Butler, picking up an 8-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. In the victory, Amy Mallah went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and four RBIs while Anese Thompson recorded her second home run this season coming away with a three-run blast.
Carolina Zamudio pitched her seventh complete game of the season and allowed three runs on six hits and fanned four batters.
Despite four intentional walks over the course of the series, London Jarrarrd picked up one hit in each game along with one RBI and four runs scored. The freshman now leads the Johnnies and ranks second in the league with a .391 batting average.
Meisha Murray notched her seventh multi-hit game of the season as the Santa Clarita, Calif. native produced three hits and scored two runs.
Murray has stolen 15 bases on the year, good enough for fourth in the league. As a team, the Johnnies sit third in the league with 37 stolen bags.
The Sharks are 14-22 this season and most recently dropped a weekend series with Merrimack, 2-1. LIU returns three members of last year's All-NEC First Team: Kiana Cisneros, Katie Hinkle and Dallas Andrews. Camryn Lyman leads the Sharks with a .414 batting average and 18 RBIs while Alyssa O'Donnell has dominated in the circle for LIU with 91.0 innings pitched and a 3.62 ERA. As a team, LIU is third in the NEC with a .277 batting average with Lyman leading the way with 49 hits.
St. John's and LIU have not yet met since the merger of Division II LIU Post and Division I LIU Brooklyn. Against the former Division I Brooklyn Blackbirds, the Red Storm is 20-25.
The Johnnies and Blackbirds met once a year from 2012-2019 with St. John's boasting a 5-3 lead during that time frame.
