Red Storm welcome the Golden Eagles for its conference opener
QUEENS, N.Y.- After Thursday's match at Monmouth was postponed due to rain, the St. John's men's tennis team will return to the court on Saturday to take on Marquette at noon.
The match is set to played at the St. John's Tennis Courts and marks the squad's final home contest of the 2022 campaign. The Red Storm have posted an impressive 10-1 record during matches held in Queens this year.
Last weekend, the Johnnies split their two matches. After sweeping Fordham, 4-0, at home on Saturday, St. John's fell at no. 59 Cornell, 7-0, the following day in Ithaca, N.Y.
Three-time BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week Axel Vila Antuna and Ignacio Garcia have paved the way for the Red Storm this spring. In addition to filling the top doubles role, the duo has mainly slid into the no. 1 and 2 singles positions, respectively. As partners the pair has notched six wins in their last seven appearances.
Freshman Carl Gustavsson has fit in nicely to the Red Storm line-up. The Stockholm, Sweden, native has posted 10 wins on the year.
The last time these two teams took the same court, the Johnnies outlasted the Golden Eagles, 4-2, in the BIG EAST semifinals. Marquette brings a 5-13 record with them to Queens and will face Villanova on Friday.
Following Saturday's showdown, St. John's will close its regular season with trips to Temple on Wednesday and Georgetown on Saturday
