Men’s Tennis Edges Marquette, 4-3, on Saturday

Red Storm claims its ninth straight home match
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's men's tennis team defeated BIG EAST foe Marquette in a nail-biter, 4-3, at the on-campus tennis courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Johnnies (14-4) easily grabbed the doubles point against the Golden Eagles. The dynamic duo of Axel Vila Antuna and Ignacio Garcia cruised to a 6-2 win on the no. 1 court while the no. 3 pair of Vlad Vasilache and Carl Gustavsson did not drop a game on the way to a 6-0 victory to give the Red Storm early one-point lead.
In singles play, St. John's took three out of six matches, all in straight sets, to add the three points needed for the win.
Garcia kept the momentum going, defeating Marquette's Ian Brady, 6-2, 6-2, on the no. 4 court. Vasilache finished the day with zero games lost, routing the Golden Eagles' Jan Jauch by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Giuseppe De Camelis cruised in his match on the no. 6 court, beating Will Tennison, 6-2, 6-0, and giving the Red Storm the conference win. The Trani, Italy native has now won seven out of his last eight singles matches.
The Red Storm will return to the court on Wednesday when it travels to Philadelphia to take on Temple University.
