St. John’s in Second After Day One of The Doc Gimmler

Four Johnnies sit in the top-15 after 36 holes
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Through 36-holes, the St. John's men's golf team sits in second place at The Doc Gimmler after shooting a 21-under 539 at Bethpage Golf Course on Saturday.
Harvard led the way, carding a 537 during the first two rounds of play. The Crimson's Jeff Fang and Connecticut's Jared Nelson pace the field with a 10-under par 130 through the first day of competition.
The Red Storm was led by Peicheng Chen as the sophomore carded a 9-under 131 for the first two rounds. The Beijing native was one of seven golfers to post an eagle during the tournament. He also logged 12 birdies during the first day of competition, ranking second in the field.
Jack Simon posted a top-10 finish on the first day as he tied for seventh place when he came into the clubhouse at 5-under par, carding a two-round total of 135. Gage Wolfle followed a stroke behind, checking in with a score of 136 through two rounds to tie for 11th.
Tyler Gerbavsits placed just inside the top-15 as the Huntington, N.Y., native shot 137 through 36 holes to finish 3-under par and in a tie for 14th place. In his St. John's debut, Brendan Smith came into the clubhouse locked in a tie for 39th as he carded a 142.
Individually, Ryan Rittberger carded a 144 for the first two rounds while Joseph Busiello recorded a 36-hole total of 146. The golfers tied for 52nd and 61st place, respectively. Thomas Stafford rounded out the team, shooting a 147 for the day.
The Red Storm returns to action tomorrow with the final round from The Doc Gimmler. Teams will tee off at 7:30 a.m.
