St. John’s Finishes Second at The Doc Gimmler

Peicheng Chen takes third at home event
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The St. John's men's golf team came in second at The Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Golf Course on Sunday.
Harvard took home the team title, coming into the clubhouse at 33-under par for the tournament. The Johnnies finished just a stroke behind The Crimson with a 32-under par 808 for the 54-hole event.
Peicheng Chen paced the Johnnie squad as he came in third place with a combined 199. The sophomore shot a 68 during his final round, making 15 birdies during the event.
Gage Wolfle tied for fifth place when he shot 9-under par for the weekend. The Sewell, N.J. native carded his lowest score of the day and logged five birdies when he recorded a 65 during his final round. Jack Simon shot an even 70 on Sunday to finish at 205 for the tournament and tied for 14th place. He was one of two St. John's players to make an eagle over the weekend.
Tyler Gerbavsits tied for 19th place when he posted a 70 on the final day to finish with a 3-under 207 for the weekend. Brendan Smith closed out his debut in the Red and White with his lowest round of the weekend. The fifth year carded a 4-under 66 to finish a stroke behind Gerbavists and tie for 22nd.
Individually, Ryan Rittberger shot a 72 on the final day for a two-day total of 216. Joseph Busiello posted a 77 to finish with a 54-hole total of 223. Thomas Stafford rounded out the Johnnies, shooting 228 for the event.
The team is back in action at the Macdonald Cup, hosted by Yale. The two-day tournament is set for Sept. 24-25.
