St. John’s Wraps Up Weekend of Competition at Philadelphia Invite

Women’s squad secured two victories on Sunday afternoon
PHILADELPHIA- The St. John's fencing program took part in its second meet in as many days at the Philadelphia Invite, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
The men's team took on familiar foes Notre Dame and Ohio State along with Wayne State and NYU. The women's team battled against the same four opponents plus Northwestern.
The women's squad picked up two wins on Sunday over Wayne State and NYU, and the men's team also scored a victory over Wayne State.
Jan Jurkiewicz and Ahmed Ferjani paced the men's squad, posting nine individual wins each. Jurkiewicz led all men's fencers with 19 total victories over the past two meets and 33 wins for the season.
On the women's side, it was foil fencer Malwina Kolodziejczyk who had the high mark in wins, logging 11 victories in a dominant performance. Sophomore Julia Cieslar grabbed nine wins of her own in another solid effort on the strip.
The Red Storm will return to action next Sunday when it travels to Brooklyn to compete in the LIU Shark Showcase.
