St. John’s Collects Multiple Wins at LIU Shark Showcase

Red Storm grabs victories over several top schools in Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Jan. 29, 2023)- The St. John's fencing program enjoyed a successful day at the LIU Shark Showcase at the Steinberg Wellness Center on Sunday.
The men's team defeated crosstown rivals Columbia along with Yale, LIU and Penn. The women's team picked up a win over Yale.
Three Johnnies tied for the lead in wins on the men's side as Ahmed Ferjani, Fares Ferjani and Mauricio Pellegrino each registered an impressive 12 victories each. Behind the efforts of the Ferjani brothers, the men's saber team posted a strong record of 30-15 on Sunday. Pellegrino led the epee group to a respectable mark of 29-16.
For the women's team, it was Julia Cieslar who stood out once again as the sophomore secured 12 wins. Cieslar has logged 30 wins across three invitationals in the month of January.
The Red Storm will take an extended break before returning to team competition on Feb. 26 at the Temple Invitational.
