No. 24/23 St. John’s Heads to Seton Hall for Wednesday Night Clash

Johnnies ready for road test at Walsh Gymnasium
QUEENS, N.Y.- The No. 24/23 St. John's women's basketball team will start off 2023 with a conference battle at Seton Hall. on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Matt Ambrose and Isis Young will be on the call from Walsh Gymnasium for the 86th meeting between the Red Storm and Pirates on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
The Johnnies will continue conference play holding a 4-0 record in BIG EAST competition for the first time in 40 years and remain undefeated on the year.
The Red Storm remains in the national polls, sliding up one spot to No. 24 in the Associated Press poll, marking the first time since 2012 that the group has been ranked in the media poll three weeks in a row. After entering the USA Today Coaches' poll last week, the Johnnies continue to move upward checking in at No. 23.
St. John's has given opposing teams fits offensively and boasts the 15th best-scoring defense in NCAA Division I, as of Jan. 2, allowing just 53.3 points per game. In nine of the Johnnies' 13 wins, the opposing side has scored 55 points or fewer.
Under Head Coach Joe Tartamella, the Red Storm have played a very disciplined brand of defense, ranking second in the country in fewest fouls per game at 12.2.
In its last outing, St. John's brought 2022 to a close with a convincing 68-48 victory at Georgetown on New Year's Eve. Jayla Everett reached the 20-point threshold for the third-straight outing. The sharpshooting guard has averaged 21.7 points and drilled 12 three-pointers over the last three games.
Jillian Archer made her mark during Saturday's victory in the nation's capital finishing just one shy of her career-high with 17 rebounds and chipping in nine points against the Hoyas. The forward was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday and currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in rebounding with 8.5 per game.
Seton Hall enters Wednesday's contest having won seven of its last eight games holding an 11-4 record on the season and a 4-1 mark in league play. In its last outing, The Pirates trailed by as much as nine in the opening quarter before rallying for a resounding victory over Butler, 79-45.
Lauren Park-Lane went for 19 points to lead the charge in the conference victory. The 2021-22 unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection has strung together another successful campaign averaging 20.9 points and 6.0 assists per game.
The Pirates under the tutelage of Head Coach Tony Bozzella, have done a superb job taking care of the ball and forcing turnovers, ranking first in the league in turnover margin at a mark of +4.2.
Last year's meetings between the two schools were split with the home-side winning each time. The Red Storm offense poured in 88 points in a 13-point victory at Carnesecca Arena on Dec. 5, 2021, before Seton Hall edged St. John's, 84-79, in South Orange, N.J. on Jan. 19, 2022. Kadaja Bailey averaged 18.5 points against the Pirates last season and Wednesday will mark her 10th career game against the league foe.
