The Red Storm will kick off the indoor track season at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex

QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's track and field team will kick off its 2023-24 indoor season at the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational on Saturday. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Last season, the Red Storm collected six individual wins in its annual season-opening invitational. Three freshmen recorded victories across different events in the meet.

Senior Brooklyn Chestnut returns to lead a talented group of sprinters in the 2023-24 campaign. Chestnut collected her first win of the 2022-23 season last year at the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational, recording a first-place time of 7.58 seconds in the 60-yard dash.

Nora Haugen and Chinenye Onuorah return to the Red Storm with high expectations, after immediate success on the track in their first season with the Red Storm. Haugen and Onuorah earned a medal in the 2023 Indoor BIG EAST Championships In the 4x400-meter relay with a phenomenal finishing time of 3:45.11.

Sophomore Jamora Alves is ready for another season in Red and White after qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in her freshman season with the program. The Carriacou, Grenada, product earned first place in the women's shot put at the 2023 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships with a throw of 14.06 M.

Leading the pole vaulters is Megan Ladd, who is ready for competition in her senior season. At the 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Folsom, Calif., native broke her own program record when she registered a 3.63-meter finish in the pole vault.
