Men’s Tennis Will Play Midweek Match at Hofstra

The Red Storm have won five-straight matches and are 7-1 this season
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 14, 2023) – St. John's men's tennis team will continue the young season with a midweek match at Hofstra on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Set Point Oceanside.
The Red Storm will hope to continue its current hot streak, in which the squad has won its last five matches. In the first three weeks of the BIG EAST Weekly Awards, a Johnnie has been included at least once each week. The most recent pair to earn honors was Giuseppe De Camelis and Anton Stendal. The duo won a pair of doubles matches on Sunday in West Point, N.Y. against Army and Marist. St. John's was victorious edging Army, 4-3 and sweeping Marist, 4-0.
In the first ITA Rankings of the season, the duo of Diogo Marques and Axel Vila Antuna slotted in as the 54th best doubles pair in the country. The tandem is 1-0 on the season with a win at Cornell. The pair won BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week for the win of their victory.
Not only has strong doubles play guided the Red Storm, but strong singles play has been a forte as well. Sergio Molina touts a perfect 6-0 record, and Nishant Dabas is even with him for total wins with a 6-1 record. Dabas won all four singles matches he played last week to tie the transfer from New Mexico.
Hofstra enters the match 4-2 with several common wins against Red Storm opponents. The Pride have also defeated Marist, Quinnipiac and LIU this season. Over the weekend, Hofstra picked up a pair of wins against Quinnipiac, 4-3 and LIU, 4-0.
In the previous three matches between the two programs, the Johnnies have been victorious with a sweep in each match. In the most recent meeting with the Pride, the Red Storm won 7-0 at USTA.
Next week, St. John's will finish the week, with a Saturday night home match against Boston U. at USTA, doubles play is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
