The Red Storm has won its last six matches
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 17, 2023) – St. John's men's tennis team will host Boston University on Saturday night at USTA Tennis Center at 7 p.m.
The Red Storm enters the match 8-1 on the season, and currently enjoying a six-match winning streak.
Earlier in the week, the Red Storm swept Hofstra, 6-0. A pair of Johnnies earned two wins in the match. After Ryota Kaneda won his doubles match, he did not allow Ryan Lyn to win a single game for his second victory of the day. Anton Stendal also registered two wins against Hofstra.
The ITA-ranked No. 54 duo of Diogo Marques and Axel Vila Antuna headline doubles play for the Johnnies that have only lost two doubles points all season. Last week's doubles team of the week, Anton Stendal and Giuseppe De Camelis are a perfect 3-0 with all three matches happening within the week. Kaneda and Adam Groves own the most doubles wins on the team sporting a 4-1 overall record.
In singles play, New Mexico transfer Sergio Molina is a perfect 7-0. He is matched in wins by freshman Nishant Dabas (7-1). Kaneda also owns a perfect singles record, 5-0. Previous BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week, Carl Gustafsson is 5-1 on the young season.
Boston U. (4-3) won two of its three matches last weekend. The squad knocked off Adelphi and MIT on Saturday, before falling to Brown on Sunday. A pair of freshman, Corey Craig and Alejandro Licea each earned a pair of singles wins on Saturday to help guide the Terriers to victory.
St. John's has won all four previous meetings with Boston U. The Red Storm most recently defeated the Terriers, 6-1, last spring.
St. John's will play a pair of matches next week starting with a road match against Penn State on Wednesday. The Johnnies will close the weekend at Old Dominion on Sunday.
