St. John’s Set To Take on No. 9/8 Rutgers in Midweek Clash

Red Storm and Scarlet Knights to meet for the 30th time
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's lacrosse team will travel to Piscataway, N.J., to take on No. 9/8 Rutgers on Tuesday afternoon. First face-off from SHI Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
The matchup of cross-state rivals will be streamed on B1G+ with Dom Savino and Rick Mercurio on the call from New Jersey. Live stats will be available on ScarletKnights.com and StatBroadcast.
Last time out, St. John's mounted a fourth-quarter comeback against Hofstra, but ultimately came up short, 16-12, in the Red Storm's 2023 home opener at DaSilva Memorial Field on Saturday.
Sophomore attackman Brian Kelly logged a career-high eight points against the Pride with four goals and four assists. Kelly's first helper of the afternoon marked the 50th point of his career, becoming the fastest player to 50 career points in the program's history since Joe Madsen in 2018. The Red Hook, N.Y., native has tallied two or more points in all three games this season and has scored three or more goals in the past two contests.
Senior captain Connor Kalmus scored four goals for the second time in his St. John's tenure on Saturday. The Aquebogue, N.Y., native ranks second on the team with seven goals and third on the squad with 16 shots. Kalmus has scored on nearly half of his shot attempts in 2023.
The third starting attackman, Caleb Zuhoski netted his first career hat-trick against the Pride, becoming the fourth Johnnie to score three or more goals in a game this season. Zuhoski tallied his first two assists of the year for a career-best five points.
Several first-year Johnnies have made their presence felt on the field. On defense, Jack Schirtzer and Gavin Legg have combined to cause 16 turnovers. Kyle Munson has started all three games between the pipes and has logged double-digit saves in each of those starts. Freshman defenseman Harry Noel paces the squad in groundballs, scooping up nine loose balls in three starts in 2023.

Shane Knoblach paces the team with five assists and logged seven crucial points in the Scarlet Knights' win over Loyola. In net, Kyle Mullin ranks second in the Big Ten in GAA and saves percentage. Mullin logged a career-high 16 saves and posted a save percentage of .727 on Saturday.
After the midweek tilt in the Garden State, St. John's will complete its two-game road swing with a trip to Vestal, N.Y., to take on Binghamton at noon on Saturday.
