St. John’s Heads to Creighton for Saturday Tilt

Red Storm look to complete season sweep of the Bluejays in Omaha
QUEENS, N.Y. — The St. John's women's basketball team heads out to Omaha to take on Creighton on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET.
Rob Simms and Josh Peterson will have the call from D.J. Sokol Arena, as the contest will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
The Red Storm will look to complete the season sweep of the Bluejays after recording a huge win at Carnesecca Arena on Dec. 4, 2022. St. John's fended off a late-surge to defeated then-No. 13/14 Creighton, 66-62, its highest ranked win since it beat No. 8/7 Marquette on Feb. 15, 2019.
Jayla Everett powered the Johnnies in the first meeting between the two schools going off for 20 points and 8-of-16 shooting. Kadaja Bailey and Unique Drake each scored 13 in the winning effort.
St. John's will look to bounce back after falling to Seton Hall, 68-58, on Wednesday in Queens. The Red Storm trimmed the deficit to five with under two minutes but were unable to climb all the way back. The Pirates' Lauren Park-Lane led all scorers totaling 31 points, including 25 in the first half.
The Red Storm got 28 points off the bench in Wednesday's loss, with 24 coming from Drake and Danielle Patterson, who each added 12. The duo has provided a sizeable boost in the middle of the conference play. Drake is averaging 15.7 points per game and shooting over 65 percent from the floor in her last three games. While Patterson has logged 11.0 points per outing over her last four appearances.
The Johnnies have shot well from the field and currently sit second in the league in field goal percentage, converting on 45 percent of their shot attempts.
Taking a look at the opponent, Creighton has hit its stride and moved past the Red Storm for sole possession of third in the league standings, after defeating DePaul, 83-74, on Wednesday. The Bluejays have been victorious in six of their last seven outings after starting BIG EAST play 3-3.
The Bluejays move the ball well and rank 17th nationally and 2nd in the BIG EAST in assists with 17.1 per game. The squad also shoots it well from beyond-the-arc at a clip of 34.9 percent.
Two Creighton players, Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly average 16 points or more a game and rank within the top-9 in the conference in scoring.
Saturday's tilt marks the first of a two-game road stint in the Midwest. St. John's will face Xavier at the Cintas Center on Feb. 8.
