St. John’s Impresses at NCAA Northeast Regional

Fares Ferjani claimed the top spot in men’s saber
BOSTON- The St. John's fencing team logged a strong performance at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Harvard University on Sunday afternoon. The Red Storm faced off against 16 teams from around the northeast.
For the second straight season, Fares Ferjani finished at the top spot in men's saber among a field of 40 competitors. Ferjani posted five wins in pool play in a solid effort in Boston. Ahmed Ferjani posted a top-10 result, finishing seventh. Jan Jurkiewicz secured the top spot in men's foil, finishing the meet undefeated with six bout wins in pool play. In men's epee, Paul Fortin finished ninth, and Alan Slavinsky, Mauricio Pellegrino and Maksym Kariuchenko secured 12, 13th and 14th place, respectively.
On the women's side, Julia Cieslar logged a top-10 finish in women's saber, and Fanni Potz-Nagy grabbed 12th place. Malwina Kolodziejczyk captured ninth, and Antonina Lachman finished 13th in women's foil. Nicole Gavrilko secured ninth in women's epee.
Next up, the Red Storm will travel to Durham, N.C., to compete in the NCAA Championships on March 23-26. The NCAA Championship qualifying field will be announced on March 14.
