St. John’s to Take on Quinnipiac in Home-and-Home Series

The Red Storm and Bobcats will play two games in Queens and one contest in Hamden, Conn.
QUEENS, N.Y. – Emerging victorious in three straight games and five of its last six contests, the St. John's baseball team will square off with Quinnipiac in a three-game series beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
The Johnnies will head to Hamden, Conn. on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest at Quinnipiac Baseball Stadium before returning to Queens for the final game of the series on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 p.m. All three games will have live stats available. Both contests at St. John's will be streamed on ESPN3 and Saturday's contest can be found on GoBobcats.com.
The Red Storm (10-5) is coming off a 22-3 triumph at LIU on Wednesday. Of the 14 offensive players that made a plate appearance, 13 scored at least one tally, eight posted multi-hit performances and six drove in two or more runs. Freshman Mario Pesca earned his first collegiate win while relievers Ben Adams and Andrew Castelluccio combined to toss four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
St. John's has four players in the BIG EAST top five in batting average with Aaron Mann leading the way (.429). Marty Higgins (.424) and Paul Orbon (.420) round out the top three while redshirt junior Tate Ballestero sits fifth with a .382 mark at the dish. Orbon has reached base safely in all 15 games this season.
The Red Storm paces the BIG EAST with 37 doubles this season, good for 43rd in the nation. Twelve of the 16 Johnnies to see offensive action this season have tallied at least one double while eight have smacked three or more.
St. John's also leads the conference and ranks 28th in the country with a .314 batting average. The Red Storm also find themselves leading the conference averaging 7.8 runs per game, 174 total hits and 10.0 strikeouts per nine innings. Nick Cirelli has also found himself in the national conversation with his conference-leading 0.57 WHIP, sitting sixth in Division I.
Saturday's starter Joe Mascio has compiled a 2-0 record with a 2.70 ERA and 20 strikeouts over his last three starts. The opposition is hitting a measly .145 against the left-hander as he surrendered just one extra-base hit across 15.2 innings of work.
Friday will mark the 13th all-time meeting between the two programs since 1974 with the Johnnies boasting a 10-2 record. The Red Storm has rattled off eight of its 10 wins inside the friendly confines of Jack Kaiser Stadium, including two of three games last season.
Quinnipiac (5-8) has dropped five of its last six games despite owning a 3-2 victory at Fordham on Sunday.
Anthony Donofrio is pacing the Bobcats' lineup with 15 hits, three home runs and 11 RBIs through 13 starts. Jared Zimbardo sits right behind the senior outfielder with 14 base knocks while scoring a team-best 11 times.
As a team, Quinnipiac is averaging just 4.2 runs per game and is struggling to find its way on base with a .288 OBP.
