Red Storm will meet the Spiders for the first-time ever
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's lacrosse team will take on RV/RV Richmond on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Queens.
The contest will be streamed on ESPN3 with Ralph Bednarczyk Kevin Connelly on the call from DaSilva Memorial Field.
The Red Storm return to the field after falling to Saint Joseph's on Saturday, 16-10. Caiden Vlasimsky led the charge recording a career-high five points (3 G's, 2 A's). The sophomore also matched career-best's in goals and assists. The midfielder fired in his first-ever hat-trick at Stony Brook on March 15 and has tallied eight points over the last two outings.
Sean Duffy also tallied a hat-trick against the Hawks, the graduate student midfielder ranks third on the team with 12 goals on the year. Duffy has recorded a hat-trick in two of his last three outings.
Kyle Munson has been racking up saves for the Johnnies, the Drexel transfer is averaging 12.1 saves per game over seven starts, which ranks atop the conference. The senior registered a career-high 16 stops against St. Joseph's.
In its last game against the Hawks, the Red Storm played a disciplined brand of lacrosse and were not penalized for the first time since March 23, 2019 against UMass Lowell.
Sophomore standout Brian Kelly continues to shine, ranking fifth in the league with a team-high 28 points. A dynamic attackman, Kelly facilitates the Red Storm offensive unit and has logged 15 goals and 13 assists. In just 22 career games, the Red Hook, N.Y. native is one shy of the 40-goal mark.
Richmond, who made the NCAA Tournament in 2022, holds a 4-3 record heading into Saturday's matchup. The Spiders have endured a grueling schedule with all three losses coming against nationally ranked opponents.
The Spiders excel taking care of the ball and rank seventh nationally in clearing percentage at a clip of 90.5 percent.
Defenseman Jake Saunders leads the unit as the graduate student ranks first in the Atlantic 10 with 1.86 caused turnovers per game. Offensively, Dalton Young leads the team with 24 points, including 14 helpers in seven games.
Saturday's tilt marks the final non-conference game for the Johnnies, who will start BIG EAST play next week at No. 7/7 Villanova.
