St. John’s to Begin Four-Game Road Trip at Fairfield

The Johnnies are off to their best start since 2017
QUEENS, N.Y. – After taking two of its three games against Richmond to secure its fifth-straight series win of the year, the St. John's baseball team will open a four-game road trip at Alumni Baseball Diamond against Fairfield on Tuesday.

St. John's is coming off its fifth-straight series win of 2023, taking down Richmond in two of three games over the weekend. After splitting its doubleheader on Friday, the Johnnies capitalized on a Spiders' miscue in the seventh inning of Sunday's contest and scored four unanswered runs before toppling Richmond, 5-3.
Through 22 games, St. John's is off to its best start at 15-7 since the 2017 campaign. That season, the Red Storm won 42 games and clinched an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.
The Johnnies are nationally ranked with a .315 batting average (21st in NCAA) and 55 doubles (22nd). The Red Storm have racked up 250 hits this season, good for 40th in Division I. St. John's also finds themselves leading the conference with a .411 on-base percentage, a .460 slugging percentage and 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings.
Aaron Mann has also been a steady presence in the Red Storm lineup, pacing the BIG EAST with a .425 batting average and 27 runs scored. Marty Higgins also ranks among the conference's top hitters with 33 hits (1st) while hitting .412, sitting just behind Mann. Nick Cirelli has been electric with his conference-best 0.75 WHIP (5th in NCAA), 1.50 ERA (14th) and 7.50 strikeout-to-walk ratio (21st).
Tuesday's contest will be the 37th all-time meeting between both programs with the Johnnies holding a 29-7 record over the Stags. After winning 14 straight, the Red Storm will look to snap a three-game skid to Fairfield.
On the road this season, the Red Storm hold an 8-5 mark while hitting .290 as a team and combining for 54 extra-base hits. Of the players that have appeared in five or more games outside the friendly confines of Jack Kaiser Stadium, four Johnnies are hitting .400 or better, including Jimmy Keenan (.429), who has accumulated six doubles and a home run.
Fairfield (12-9) is coming off a three-game sweep of MAAC foe Siena and has scored 10 or more runs in four straight contests.
An offensive powerhouse, the Stags are ranked 18th in the nation with a .316 batting average and 23rd with 8.7 runs per game. Three players are batting over .385, led by Mike Becchetti (.416), Noah Lucier (.390) and Charlie Pagliarini (.386). The trio has combined for 72 runs scored and 67 RBIs through 21 games.
