St. John’s Travels to LIU for Midweek Contest

The Red Storm will travel to Seton Hall for its first BIG EAST road series to close the weekend
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team will take on LIU on Wednesday afternoon in Brookeville, N.Y. at the LIU Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Anese Thompson was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced on Monday. The sophomore tallied seven hits in nine at-bats in four games, and logged a pair of walks. Against DePaul, Thompson hit 3-for-3 with three RBIs to provide three of the four Johnnies runs.
London Jarrard has been on fire as of late, including a four doubles performance on Friday against DePaul. The Carlsbad, Calif. native tops the conference and ranks 12th in the nation with 11 doubles.She also leads the conference with nine hit by pitches, and is second slugging .742.
Last weekend, the Red Storm won its series against DePaul for the first time since 2016, and its second time in program history. Due to expected inclement weather, the two teams played in a doubleheader on Friday and closed the series on Sunday. The Johnnies took both games of the doubleheader aided by Hannah Mearns 6.2 innings in relief in game one, and a walk-off single by Jess Bianco in game two.
LIU dropped two of three last weekend in its second NEC series of the season against St. Francis. The Sharks claimed the final contest of the series in a 1-0 victory after dropping the first two of the series.
Kristen Blanchard has started all 32 games and leads the team with a .301 batting average, five stolen bases, and has collected six RBIs. Alexia Castro and Mari Narvaiz lead LIU with 4 home runs. Castro's 13 RBIs is second behind Gabby Padilla. In the circle, Lindsey Cowans is a jack-of-all-trades leading the squad with eight wins and ranks 11th in the nation with three saves. Cowans has logged 82 of the team's 178 strikeouts this season.
LIU leads the all-time series with the Red Storm, 25-21. The Johnnies are 7-10 at LIU (formerly known as LIU Brooklyn). St. John's won last spring's meeting 4-1 at Red Storm Field.
The Red Storm will finish the week with a trip to South Orange, N.J. for a three-game set against Seton Hall.
