St. John’s Travels to UConn Northeast Challenge

Red Storm will compete in Connecticut for the first time this season
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 13, 2023)- After a successful weekend in Philadelphia and Randall's Island, the St. John's track and field team will hit the road once again and head north to Storrs, Conn., for the UConn Northeast Challenge. The two-day event will get underway on Friday at noon.
Tatyana McKenzie continued her strong outdoor season at the Temple Invite last Friday, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.68. The graduate student leads the BIG EAST in the 200-meter and 400-meter races and ranks second in the league in the 100 meters.
Jamora Alves dominated in her three events across two meets last weekend. The Grenada native placed third in the shot put with a heave of 14.08 at the Temple Invite before capturing two wins in the discus and javelin throws at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships. The freshman paces the BIG EAST in the shot put and discus and is poised to keep her dominant outdoor campaign going in Connecticut.
Fellow thrower Samantha Morillo-Martinez put together a solid weekend in her own right, capturing second in the shot put with a toss of 14.15 meters in Philadelphia and launching the discus a distance of 42.22 meters at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships to finish third.
Delicia Bent continues to shine for the sprints team, securing her first win of the season in the 100-meter dash at the Temple Invite with a time of 12.24. The freshman currently ranks third in the BIG EAST in the 100 meters, one of four Johnnies to own a top-10 mark in the event.
Nora Haugen has impressed in her first outdoor season for the Red & White, boasting top-10 times in the BIG EAST in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. The Norway native finished third in the 400 meters at the Temple Invite with a mark of 56.29.
