St. John’s Outlasted by No. 9/8 Georgetown on Senior Day, 18-12

Brian Kelly led the squad with a hat-trick
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's lacrosse team continued to fight and stay in the contest but ultimately fell to No. 9/8 Georgetown, 18-12, on Senior Day at Belson Stadium.
Brian Kelly netted his fourth hat-trick of the year to lead the Red Storm on Saturday. The attackman has now exceeded the 40-point mark for the 2023 campaign.
Sean Duffy and Connor Kalmus each added a pair of goals and an assist against the Hoyas.
Caleb Zuhoski, Jake Wright, Gavin Legg, Evan Stowe and Kyle Wasilewski each added one goal apiece at Belson Stadium.
Ricardo Carreras, Jack Lutfi, Wright and Zuhoski all tallied a helper.
Netminder Kyle Munson registered 12 saves against one of the nation's top scoring offenses, marking his 10th game this season with double-digit stops.
The Hoyas started off the contest scoring the first three goals of the contest, before Kalmus opened up the Red Storm scoring off an assist from Lutfi with his 20th goal of the year.
Wasilewski took it himself off a turnover and launched a rocket to move the score line, 5-2 with 2:33 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Hoyas added six of the game's next seven goals before a Munson save led to a breakout from Legg, who took it coast-to-coast and buried one to spark the Red Storm. Kelly went onto score his first two goals of the game to go on a three-goal stretch to make it 11-6 at the break.
At the start of the third quarter, St. John's (0-13, 0-4) capitalized on the man-up advantage as Kelly fired in a long-range rocket off a pass from Duffy to cut the deficit to four, 11-7.
The Hoyas responded spurring a four-goal run to balloon its advantage back to eight, 15-7. The Red Storm showed its resilience once again, firing off a three-goal spurt. Kalmus started it off with a. miraculous spinning goal he flung into the net. Duffy tallied the next two early in the fourth frame, bringing him up to 18 goals in the season. With the Hoyas' advantage back down to five, Georgetown (9-3, 4-0 BIG EAST) responded once again and tallied the next three goals to put the game out of the balance.
In the closing minutes, Stowe and Wright both recorded their first collegiate goals while Carreras, on his Senior Day, got his first-ever assist.
Before the game St. John's honored 12 hard-working seniors- Cameron Bieler, Benjamin Bishop, Harrison Bowen, Carreras, Dante Colaiacovo, Corey Hall, Kalmus, Legg, Billy Mahecha, Drew Martin, Michael Pisanelli and Wasilewski.
St. John's will close out its regular season next Saturday on April 29 at Providence at noon.
