St. John’s in Second After the Opening Day at the Southern Invitational

Peicheng Chen in second overall after shooting 6-under through 36 holes
PALM BEACH, Fla.- The St. John's men's golf team sits in second place as a team following the opening two rounds at the Southern Invitational.
The Red Storm shot 4-over and trail the leaders Jacksonville by seven strokes heading into the final round tomorrow.
The Johnnies posted the best stroke average on par-4's out of the 11 teams, shooting an average score of 4.07 throughout the first 36 holes in Palm Beach.
Standout Peicheng Chen had an excellent day at the Falls Club finishing at 6-under and in second place overall. The sophomore standout carded an opening round 4-under, 68, before recording a 2-under, 70, in the second round. Chen sunk 12 birdie putts, tied for the most by any player in the 60-golfer field.
Jack Simon and Gage Wolfle sit in a deadlock for 16th place with a score of 3-over, . Simon was consistent throughout both his rounds, shooting a 2-over, 74, and a 1-over, 73. Wolfle logged a 1-under, 71, in the second round on the heels of a first hole eagle. The senior leads all individual competitors.
Brendan Smith and Ryan Rittberger checked in just one stroke behind their teammates at 4-over and are for 21st place. Both players shot 1-under, 71, in the first round before following it up with a 5-over, 77 to conclude the afternoon.
Tyler Gerbavsits rounded out the St. John's line-up as the graduate student shot 4-over, 76, in both rounds and sits in 37th with a cumulative score of 8-over.
The final round from the Falls Club will commence at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live results are available on GolfStat.
