St. John’s to Face Columbia and Iona in Back-to-Back Midweek Matches

QUEENS, N.Y. – Coming off of a doubleheader split with BIG EAST foe Georgetown, the St. John's baseball team will take on Columbia at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium in a 1 p.m. contest on Tuesday before welcoming Iona to Jack Kaiser Stadium for a 6 p.m. showdown on Wednesday.

St. John's (20-21) will look to build on its recent 9-4 win over the Hoyas, thanks in part to David Glancy's two-homer, five-RBI performance. Xavier Kolhosser picked up his second win of the season, being limited to just three scoreless innings while seeing the minimum on Saturday.
Aaron Mann continues to pace the BIG EAST with his .374 batting average, sitting inside the top 100 in the nation. The Johnnies' first baseman has also logged 19 multi-hit games this season.
Tuesday's starter Mario Pesca will look to build off of his last start when he goes up against Columbia, tossing six scoreless innings of two-hit ball versus Big Ten rival Rutgers. Freshman Andrew Castelluccio will follow suit against Iona, making his first career start for the Red Storm.
St. John's will square off with Columbia for the 45th time in program history, holding a 29-14 record over the Lions. The Johnnies also carry a slight 10-8 advantage on the road against Columbia. The Red Storm have won back-to-back games against the Lions, including a 5-1 victory on March 22, 2022. Paul Orbon drove in a pair of runs in that game while eight pitchers combined to allow one tally on four hits.
Columbia (23-16) is coming off three straight losses to Harvard after jumping out to a five-game winning streak. The Lions have also picked up ranked wins over UConn and Alabama, twice.
As a team, Brett Boretti's club paces the Ivy League and ranks nationally with 8.7 runs per game (18th), a .310 batting average (20th) and 67 home runs (41st). Andy Blake leads in Lions with a .373 mark at the dish, 66 hits, 48 runs scored, 18 doubles and 42 RBIs while tying Hayden Schott with 10 home runs.
Junior Derek Yoo has been steady out of the pen for Columbia this season, logging a 1-0 record across 17 relief appearances with a 3.80 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 23.2 innings of work.
On Wednesday, St. John's will look to extend its winning streak to 14 games when Iona visits the Jack. The Red Storm holds a 59-11 overall record over the Gaels while managing a 37-4 record in Queens. The Johnnies have held Iona to three runs or less in each of its last seven meetings, including an 8-3 win on April 27, 2022, and a 9-2 triumph on May 11, 2022. Tate Ballestero and Nick Cirelli combined for nine RBIs, five doubles and five runs scored its two matchups with Iona last season.
Iona (10-30) has dropped four of its last five games with its lone win coming against Marist, 13-7. The Gaels also earned two wins against BIG EAST schools this season, knocking off Villanova with a doubleheader sweep on March 26.
