St. John’s to Meet No. 13/14 UConn at UBS Arena on Saturday

Red Storm have won six of its last seven contests and sit second in the BIG EAST standings
QUEENS, N.Y– The St. John's women's basketball team will ready to take on No. 13/14 UConn at UBS Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The two conference foes will square off in the second-ever women's basketball game at UBS Arena, the home of the NHL's New York Islanders. The Red Storm hosted the Huskies on Jan. 11, 2023 in the first-ever edition of women's hoops at the venue.
The contest between the two top teams in the BIG EAST standings will air on SNY with Allen Bestwick and Meghan Culmo on the call.

St. John's (10-7, 4-1 BIG EAST) enters Saturday's meeting on a hot streak adding to the win column in six of its last seven and eight of its last 10 contests.
The Johnnies are off to a 4-1 start in conference play for the second-straight year for the first time since the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns.
Unique Drake leads the charge for the Red Storm averaging 19.6 points per game. The redshirt senior has finished in double-figures in 16 out of 17 games and led all scorers in 14 of those contests. The Columbia, S.C., native has been a sharpshooter from beyond-the-arc draining 47 triples at a 42.3 percent clip. After a pair of 24-point performances over No. 19/20 Marquette and Providence last week. Drake was named the BIG EAST And All-MET Player of the Week.
In its last outing, the Johnnies cruised past Xavier at the Cintas Center on Tuesday night, 60-42. The squad tallied a season-high 21 assists on 22 made field goals. The assist total was St. John's most since it recorded 22 against Georgetown on Feb. 11, 2022.
Jillian Archer posted her fifth double-double on Tuesday night against the Musketeers. The forward finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 5-for-8 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. The graduate student leads the team averaging 7.4 rebounds per contest and ranks second in scoring with 11.0.
Tara Daye has emerged throughout league play and has provided a significant boost during the team's recent success. A superb on-ball defender, the sophomore is adding 7.2 points and 5.4 rebounds during BIG EAST competition.
The Red Storm defense has been on lockdown recently after holding the Musketeers to just 42 points, the lowest total by a BIG EAST opponent since Feb. 13, 2021. The Johnnies rank 22nd in the country in scoring defense allowing just 54.5 points per game. The Red Storm rank seventh nationally in fewest fouls per game with 12.8.
In the last meeting between the two teams, the Red Storm shocked No. 4/5 UConn in Hartford, 69-64, for its highest-ranked win in over a decade on Feb. 21. Danielle Patterson and Kadaja Bailey each finished with 20 points during the historic victory at the XL Center. In the first contest between the two at UBS, the Huskies took home an 82-52 victory. Saturday's meeting will mark the 66th between the two programs.
UConn comes to UBS Arena rolling having won nine-straight and its last five by more than 25 points. The Huskies boast a 13-3 overall record and are off to a perfect 5-0 mark in BIG EAST play.
2021 Naismith Player of the Year Paige Bueckers has returned to the Huskies line-up after missing all of last year due to injury. The guard leads the team with 18.9 points per game shooting 53.2 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from 3-point range.
The Huskies most recently downed Providence at home, 85-41, on Wednesday night. The Huskies started the game on a 24-4 run and never looked back recording a season-high 20 steals.
Following Saturday's contest, St. John's will return to Carnesecca Arena, where its 21-4 in its last 25 games to face Butler on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
