Men’s Tennis Sweeps Quinnipiac, 7-0, For Second Win of 2024

Red Storm improves to 2-0 for the fifth consecutive season
The St. John's men's tennis team won its second game in as many days, taking down Quinnipiac, 7-0, at the USTA National Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
St. John's has won eight straight matchups against the Bobcats, dating back to the 2015-2016 season.
The Red Storm took the double point after winning two of the three matches over the Bobcats. Quinnipiac (0-1) took the first match on the No. 1 doubles court as Daniel Velek and Shaurya Sood defeated Fransisco Bascón and Martin Bugaj, 6-3. Leon Petko and Ignacio Vinas took down Finn Burridge and Carlos Braun-Simo, 6-4, while Leonardo Mileikowsky and Carl Gustavsson got the best of Donavan Brown and Csanad Nyaradi, 6-3. Both pairs picked up their second wins of the season on Wednesday.
Gustavsson gave St. John's a 2-0 lead, picking up his second singles win of the season against Sood in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-3. Ryota Kaneda was on the No. 5 singles court for the second straight day and picked up his second win, defeating Donavan Brown 6-4, 6-1.
Leonardo Mileikowsky gave the home team a 4-0 lead as he continued his perfect start to his dual-match St. John's career, picking up the win against Braun-Simo, 6-4, 6-4. The lead was pushed to five on the No. 4 court when Ignacio Vinas emerged victorious against Nyaradi, 6-3, 7(7)-6(3).
The second singles wins of the season by Danilo Raicevic and Bascón gave the Red Storm its sixth and seventh points of the match, completing the sweep.
The Red Storm improved to 2-0 on the year in their first match of 2024 at the USTA National Tennis Center, while Quinnipiac falls to 0-1. The Johnnies have started the season 2-0 in five consecutive seasons.
St. John's will wrap up its opening week of matches tomorrow at Cunningham Park against Long Island University. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
