St. John’s to Meet Fairfield in Non-Conference Finale

Red Storm seeking double-digit non-conference regular season wins for the first time since 2010-11
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team will close its non-conference slate on Sunday afternoon when it meets Fairfield at 2 p.m.
The two squads, both ranked top-45 in the NET rankings will face off on FloSports with Jack Barteck and Kevin Connelly on the call from Queens. Tickets for Sunday's contest can be purchased here. All fans that bring an unwrapped toy to the game will receive free admission.
The Red Storm hold a 9-1 record on the year and are seeking to reach double-digit non-conference wins for the first time since the 2010-11 season. The Johnnies picked up their fifth road victory of the season on Wednesday night, downing Hofstra, 62-38.
The stout defensive performance on Long Island marked the third time this season the Johnnies have held their opponent below 40 points. St. John's boasts the nation's top scoring defense allowing opponents to just 48.2 points per game. Seven teams have been limited to 50 or fewer points against the swarming unit and no team has scored more than 70 through 10 games.
In the win over the Pride, St. John's held it to just 17 points in the second half en route to a 24-point margin of victory at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Center. The Red Storm shot 8-for-16 (50%) from 3-point range, its highest mark since it took down No. 19/20 Marquette last season on Jan. 3.
Kylie Lavelle delivered a strong performance at Hofstra matching season-high's in points (15) and rebounds (8). The junior went 7-for-9 from the field and cashed in on her first seven field goal attempts The Moosic, Pa., native is averaging 2.3 blocks per game over her last three outings and ranks top-10 in that category.
Reigning Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association Player of the Week Lashae Dwyer recorded her ninth double-figure scoring performance in 10 games logging a game-high 18 points on Long Island. The senior is averaging 15.8 points and 3.0 steals per game, the latter of which ranks 17th in the country.

The two sides met last year in Connecticut, where the Stags took a 67-62 decision. Unique Drake led all scorers with 21 points and Jayda Brown chipped in 10 at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
The last meeting in Queens came five years ago, when the Red Storm outlasted the Stags in overtime, 71-69. The Red Storm recorded 16 steals in that contest and nailed a game-winner with just 1.6 seconds left in the extra period.
Fairfield comes into the contest on a five-game winning streak, dating back nearly a month and a 6-2 record on the year. The Stags own wins over Arkansas, Wake Forest and most recently Villanova. Last year, the squad tallied a 31-2 record and the second best winning percentage (.939) in NCAA Division I.
The Stags are led by sophomore standout Meghan Andersen, who is averaging 14.8 points per game and shooting 39.5 percent from beyond-the-arc. Izabela Nicoletti-Leite ranks second in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio at a clip of 4.6
