Junior attackman Brian Kelly tied a career-high with five goals, but the St. John's lacrosse team fell to Hofstra, 17-13, on Tuesday night.
Kelly chipped in an assist against the Pride, giving the junior 102 career points and moving him into a tie with Colin Keegan for 13th place on the program's all-time points list. Tuesday marked Kelly's 10th career hat trick and second career five-goal performance. Over the past two seasons, the junior has 14 points in two games against the Pride.
Bobby Seel recorded his second consecutive four-point performance, netting two goals and adding a pair of helpers. Caiden Vlasimsky accounted for three points on two goals and an assist, bringing his point total for the season to seven.
Freshman Richie Reid scored for the third straight game to begin the season and Caleb Zuhoski added his fourth goal of 2024 for the Red Storm.
Pat Reilly notched his first goal in a Red Storm uniform while Sean Duffy found the back of the net for the first time in 2024. Dylan Lee tallied his second point of his freshman campaign with his first career assist and scooped a team-best six groundballs.

For the third game in a row, St. John's was strong on the clear, converting 17-of-20 opportunities. On the season, the Red Storm have 58 successful clears on 65 attempts.
Hofstra's John Madsen recorded six goals and an assist, while Rory Jones tallied a hat trick and added a trio of helpers. Goaltender Sean Henderson made 19 saves between the pipes.
The first quarter featured four different goal-scorers for the Red Storm (0-3). Hofstra opened the scoring three minutes into the game after the teams traded turnovers on their opening possessions. Kelly evened the score 1:10 later, taking it himself from behind the crease. Zuhoski gave the Red Storm its first lead of the game, scoring off a restart before Vlasimsky scored an unassisted goal to double the advantage, 3-1.
The Pride went on a 3-0 run to regain the lead, 4-3, but shortly before the end of the quarter, Seel ripped a shot from the right side that beat Henderson over his right shoulder to tie the game at four heading into the second frame.
The Johnnies won the opening faceoff of the second quarter and wasted no time regaining the lead as Reid buried a shot on the doorstep of the crease off a feed from Seel. Hofstra scored two quick goals to go up, 6-5.
St. John's put an end to Hofstra's run when Seel took a pass from Noel and fired a shot past Henderson's left shoulder to tie the game at six. Kelly reclaimed the lead with his second of the game, but Hofstra quickly responded and knotted the contest at seven.
Kelly completed his second straight hat trick with 4:23 left in the quarter on an assist from Vlasimsky. Thirty-one seconds later, the lead was stretched to two, 9-7, when Vlasimsky scored off a helper from Kelly, marking the 100th point in Kelly's career.
After the intermission, Kelly buried his fourth of the game 1:39 into the quarter to give the Johnnies a 10-8 advantage. The junior scored his fifth of the night midway through the third before Reilly scored an acrobatic goal on the man-up off a loose ball scrum right in front of the net to take a 12-8 lead.
Hofstra fired off a 2-0 run to end the third and added a third just 1:14 into the final frame, shrinking the Red Storm's lead to one, 12-11. The Pride scored five more goals before the final whistle to hold on for the four-goal victory.
