Friday's contest features a pair of teams that sit in the top-four of the BIG EAST standings as the regular season nears its end. Creighton is 11-2 in conference play trailing only UConn and is riding a 10-game winning streak. St. John's is currently in fourth place and seeks to reach double-digit BIG EAST wins for the eighth time during Head Coach Joe Tartamella's 12-year tenure at the helm.
On Tuesday, the Red Storm snapped a two-game skid earning a pivotal 68-57 win over rival Seton Hall. The Johnnies spurred on two separate 11-0 runs and held the Pirates to just 20 points in the second half to tally a double-digit victory.
The Red Storm shot 17-for-20 (85%) from the charity stripe and outrebounded Seton Hall, 36-25 en route to its eighth straight-win at Carnesecca Arena.
Unique Drake went off for 26 points and shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line to lead St. John's offensive efforts. The redshirt senior continues to shine in her final campaign averaging 19.0 points per game, which ranks top-35 nationally. The Columbia, S.C., native is seven points shy of reaching becoming just the seventh Red Storm player to record 500 points in a single-season. Drake is averaging 23.3 points over her last six games.
Jillian Archer is on a tear as of late after registering her second consecutive double-double in the win over Pirates. The graduate student is averaging 16.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game over her last two outings. The forward is the only BIG EAST player to rank top-20 in scoring (17th with 11.5), top-10 in rebounding (7th with 7.5) top-5 in blocks per game (3rd with 1.7) and top-3 in field goal percentage (2nd at 59.6%).
Ber'Nyah Mayo finished in double-figures for the ninth time in the last 10 games on Tuesday logging 13 points. The point guard ranks sixth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0) and ninth in assists per game (3.6).
In their earlier meeting, the then-No. 21 Bluejays heated up from 3-point land in the third quarter shooting 5-for-6 from beyond-the-arc in the stanza to pull away and grab a 67-56 decision in Omaha. Archer led the Johnnies with 19 points.
In the last meeting in Queens on Dec. 4, 2023, the Johnnies battled to a crucial 66-62 win over then-No. 13/14 Creighton.
In 26 meetings between the two programs, the series is deadlocked at 13-13 and 5-5 over the last 10 games.
The Bluejays make the journey from Nebraska as one of the hottest teams in the country and own one of the top-10 longest active winning streaks in NCAA Division I, having won ten-straight.
Creighton is led by a balanced scoring attack as three players rank inside the top-15 in the BIG EAST in scoring. Emma Ronsiek leads the team averaging 18.3 points per game.
The Bluejays lead the nation in free throw percentage, shooting 82.7 percent from the charity stripe and rank third in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at an impressive clip of 1.6.
