St. John’s Off to Nation’s Capital to Face Georgetown

Red Storm will face the Hoyas on Tuesday night at McDonough Arena
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's women's basketball team will make its way to the nation's capital to face Georgetown on Tuesday night.
The Red Storm and Hoyas will meet for the 73rd time at McDonough Arena at 7 p.m. Jeremy Huber and Maren Walseth will have the call on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
The Johnnies will play their third road contest in the last five games after splitting a pair of games at Carnesecca last week.
St. John's (15-12, 9-6 BIG EAST) picked up a 68-57 decision over Seton Hall on Tuesday before falling to No. 20/19 Creighton in its last outing on Friday/
The nationally-ranked Bluejays had the hot-hand, shooting 57.7 percent (30-52) from field goal range and 50 percent (9-18) from beyond-the-arc in Friday's matchup. The Red Storm orchestrated a 20-point third quarter but never got the deficit back to single-digits.
Over the last five games, the Johnnies have shot well from free throw line, cashing in on 79.5 percent (62-78) of their attempts during that span. On the season, the squad is shooting 73.9 percent (300-406) from the charity stripe.
Ber'Nyah Mayo led the Red Storm with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting and went 2-for-3 from 3-point range. The point guard tallied five steals, the most by a Johnnie since Skye Owen's six at Marist on Dec. 2. Her nine steals in two games last week ranked the sixth most of any player in the country during that timeframe.
Jillian Archer kept making an impact in the frontcourt, finishing in double-figures for the ninth consecutive game logging 11 points against Creighton. Over her last three appearances, the graduate student is registering 14.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
Tuesday marks the second meeting of the season series between the two conference foes. St. John's defeated Georgetown on Jan. 28, 57-56, at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm tallied its most points in a single-quarter during BIG EAST play against the Hoyas, scoring 25 points in the third. The Johnnies led by as many as 17 before the Hoyas made a late-run that was fended off and carried St. John's to its fifth-straight win over Georgetown.
The Red Storm lead the all-time series, 43-29, and have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two programs.
Georgetown holds a 16-10 record on the year and a 6-9 mark in conference play. The Hoyas pride themselves on defense, leading the league and ranking 17th nationally, allowing opponents to just 55.4 points per game.
The Hoyas have dropped three of their last four, most recently falling at No. 15/14 UConn, 85-44, on the road on Friday night.
Kelsey Ransom has impressed for Georgetown, leading the team in points per game (13.5), assists per game (4.0) and steals per game (2.1).
