St. John’s Wraps Up Opening Day at Gulf Coast Collegiate

Chen leads the squad sitting in 10th place
NEW ORLEANS – The St. John's men's golf team wrapped up the opening two rounds at the Gulf Coast Collegiate Classic in New Orleans on Monday.
The Red Storm shot 49-over, 625, and sit in 10th place after the initial 36 holes at English Turn Golf Club. The squad ranks third among the tournament field tallying 98 pars on the day.
In the latter 18 holes of the day, St. John's 21-over, 309 as a team improving its score by seven strokes from the opening round.
Peicheng Chen leads the Red Storm tied for a 10th place finish at 5-over, 149, and shot a team-low par 72 in the second round on Monday. The junior flushed a team-high six birdies on Monday.
Thomas Finn checks in next for the Johnnies and leads the 92-golfer field with 26 pars. The freshman recorded a par on his first nine. In the second round, the Locust Valley, N.Y., native fired a 2-over, 74 in his final round of the day.
Individual competitor Jack Breutsch finished the day in 38th place and carded a 4-over, 76, over his first 18 holes of the day.
Erik Stevens logged the lone eagle of the day on the par-5 534-yard 11th hole during the second round.
Tomorrow's final round from the Big Easy will tee off at 9 a.m. ET. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
