St. John’s Heads to Charlotte for a Midweek Matchup With Queens

The Red Storm and the Royals will faceoff for the first time
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team will play the middle contest of a three-game road trip on Wednesday against Queens in Charlotte, N.C. Faceoff from Dickson Field is set for 4 p.m.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Michael Guerriere and Jesse Oliver on the call. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm (0-5) is coming off a setback last Saturday against No. 16/16 Richmond, 18-2. Goaltender Kyle Munson made 14 saves in net for the Johnnies, marking a new season-high. Saturday was the seventh time in Munson's career that he has made at least 14 saves in a single game.
Bobby Seel scored a pair of goals for his third multi-point game of the season. With the two points, Seel extended his team-best point and goal streaks to six games. The junior is now up to eight goals in 2024, second most on the team. Brian Kelly picked up point 107 of his career, tallying a helper on Seel's third-quarter goal. Kelly also scooped a season-best three groundballs and caused two turnovers. Defensively, Jack McCarthy led the team with a career-high six groundballs and forced two turnovers while Melbourne, Australia native Edgar Ford scooped the first groundball of his career against the Spiders.
Queens (1-2) picked up its first win of the season over the weekend, defeating Hampton at home last Saturday, 14-7. Ryan Lightsey tallied a hat trick while Callin Harris and Jack Royer each netted a pair of goals. Brendan Nace and Zach Miller tallied multi-point games for the Royals. 10 different players scored a goal for Queens and 13 players recorded at least one point. Defensively, Deacon Adams led the Royals with five groundballs and three caused turnovers. Faceoff specialist Jacob Martin won 15-of-16 draws and scooped four loose balls. Between the pipes, Wesley Wheat stopped 11 of the 18 shots he faced.
On the season, Royer leads the team with seven goals and Lightsey is tied with Harris for most point on the Royals with nine. Queens is 41-for-80 on faceoffs this season and has an .806 percent clear rate.
The Royals' roster features 26 newcomers in 2024 on a roster that was selected to finish ninth in the ASUN preseason coach's poll.
Wednesday's matchup will be the first time in program history the Red Storm have faced Queens. The Royals are the second of three new opponents on the Johnnies' schedule this season. St. John's faced NJIT on Feb. 3 in Queens in the only matchup between the programs and will take on Le Moyne for the first time on March 23 in Syracuse, N.Y.
Following the contest with the Queens, the Johnnies will wrap up its road trip on Saturday against Jacksonville. Faceoff from Rock Stadium is set for noon.
