St. John’s Revises Series Schedule against Winthrop

Red Storm has won 14 of its last 15 games entering the weekend
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team will welcome Winthrop to the Big Apple this weekend. Due to inclement weather on Thursday, the three-game slate has been adjusted and will begin on Friday.
Friday's contest will be played at neutral site Raymond J. Bartoszek Field, home of United States Merchant Marine Academy, due to St. John's campus being closed for Good Friday observation. Game one will have no broadcast available from Kings Point, N.Y., and first pitch is slated for noon.
The two programs will return to Queens for a doubleheader on Saturday at Jack Kaiser Stadium, beginning at 11 a.m. ESPN+ will carry both contests and live stats will be available for all three games on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies (17-5) have won 14 of its last 15 games and are off to their best start since going 20-2 to open the 2017 slate. St. John's took two of three games from Fordham over the weekend, including a 9-0 shutout led by a career-high seven innings of work from BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week Xavier Kolhosser. The right-hander is one of 14 Division I pitchers to have five or more wins with 30-plus innings of work this season.
With a 13-0 mark inside the friendly confines of Jack Kaiser Stadium this season, St. John's is also rocking its best start at home since 1981 when the squad won 16 straight games to open the year.
The team is currently slashing .345/.457/.545, averaging 10.4 runs on 11.8 hits per game in Queens. Four starters are batting over .400 with Blake Mayberry leading the surge with a .474 mark at the dish. The Red Storm pitching staff has also posted a 2.92 ERA and held the opposition to a .222 batting average against. Eight pitchers are recording ERA's under three with Louis Marinaro and Jed Boyle leading the way with a combined 16 scoreless innings in Queens.
The Red Storm is among NCAA Division I's top teams with a .313 batting average (27th), 2.6 doubles per contest (10th) and 21 turned double plays (30th). Catcher Jimmy Keenan continues to find himself at the top of the BIG EAST leaderboard and 19th in the nation with 11 doubles. The sophomore out of White Plains, N.Y., is also first in the conference with a .783 slugging percentage to go with a .422 batting average (2nd) and 30 RBIs (2nd). Mayberry (.415, 3rd) joined Keenan in the conference's top three in batting average.
St. John's will face off with Winthrop for just the fourth time in program history when the two teams meet. The Red Storm has won all three of its previous meetings, all coming in 2008.
Former Head Coach Ed Blankmeyer notched his 400th win at St. John's with a 4-3 win in the teams' inaugural meeting on Feb. 24, 2008. Two days later, lefty Matt Tosoni tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout in St. John's 2-0 victory in its second meeting (Feb. 26). Current pitching coach George Brown picked up the no-decision in his six innings of work in the team's 3-2 win in extra innings against the Eagles on Feb. 29, striking out five.
