St. John’s Sweeps Villanova, 7-0

The Red Storm improved to 2-0 in BIG EAST play this season
VILLANOVA, PA. – The St. John's men's tennis team picked up a dominant 7-0 sweep over Villanova on Saturday.
With the win, the Red Storm (14-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) improved to 16-0 all-time against the Wildcats. St. John's has swept the past five meetings between the two schools.
The Johnnies easily picked up the team doubles point and won all six singles matches to secure their fourth win in the last five matches.
Ryota Kaneda and Adam Groves started things off on the No. 3 doubles court, defeating Josh Vestal and Lukas Choi, 6-1, for their fourth straight victory as a pair. Armando Sotelo and Martin Bugaj clinched the team point on the No. 2 court, taking down Nowa Winton and Eitan Khromchenko, 6-4.
In singles action, Carl Gustavsson's 11th victory of the year gave the Johnnies a 2-0 lead in the match when he earned a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Will Monahan.
The lead was pushed to three when Bugaj got the better of Josh Robinson, 6-2, 6-3. The Red Storm's fourth point of the match came on the No. 6 court when Sotelo beat Ryan Nguyen, 6-3, 6-1. Sotelo has won three straight singles matches and is 6-2 on the year.
Francisco Bascon took down Khromchenko, 6-2, 6-2, and Ignacio Vinas triumphed over Thomas Wakefield, 6-1, 6-3 to give the Johnnies a 6-0 advantage. The sweep was finished off on the No. 5 court when Danilo Raicevic won his 10th singles match of the season, defeating Choi, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.
The Red Storm will return to action on April 3 when it hosts NJIT. First serve from the St. John's Outdoor Courts is set for 12 p.m.
